Victims of Automotive Accidents

Innovision regularly scans subjects who have been involved in automotive collisions, where they are seeking to determine the extent and severity of their injuries.

Head injuries through automotive accidents account for 40% of all acquired head injuries. Brain injuries are also a key component of Whiplash – the condition where the brain is damaged at the point of impact on a steering wheel or windscreen and again where the brain suffers a secondary impact where the head strikes the head rest at the back of the seat. Deceleration will result in shearing forces acting throughout the brain leading to further damage. Because of seat belts the majority of whiplash incidents do not involve external injury to the skull but rather invisible damage to the brain. The UK insurance industry pays out approximately £2 billion a year in damages for whiplash based either on self reporting or an assessment of external symptoms by health professionals.
